In winter, the Achensee offers a wide range of winter sports against a stunning mountain backdrop. Experience the thrill of skiing and snowboarding at Christlum and the nearby Zillertal ski area, or cross-country skiing on over 200km of trails. Explore the Karwendel and Rofan mountains on a variety of ski tours, winter and snowshoe hikes. And on the lake you can go ice skating, curling or snowkiting.

Skiing & snowboarding

Europe's largest contiguous nature reserve is just waiting to be explored, with the Karwendel and Rofan mountains on your doorstep. The Christlum ski area lies at the end of the Achensee. The Zillertal ski area is just a 30-minute drive away and offers a wide variety of runs for all abilities. Snowboarders will love the fast-paced boarder routes with plenty of obstacles, freestyle jumps and giant half-pipes. In the small, intimate resorts around the Achensee or in the largest resort in the neighbouring Zillertal.

Cross-country skiing at Lake Achensee

The quality-tested Achensee cross-country skiing region has one of the largest and best-maintained cross-country ski trail networks in Austria. There are more than 200 km of cross-country ski trails - many of them with four tracks. In addition to the classic trails, there are also parallel skating trails, separate trails for cross-country sledding, dog trails, practice trails and much more.

114 km of classic trails, 106.5 km of skating trails, 46.5 km of cross-country sledding trails and 2 km of dog trails. 40 km of pistes in Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau are also covered with snow. 

The cross-country skiing variety around Lake Achensee is huge and there really is something for everyone in the quality-certified cross-country skiing region.     Away from the pistes and cross-country trails, there are plenty of leisurely ways to enjoy winter at Achensee. The Karwendel valleys are ideal for long winter walks and snowshoe treks. Guided winter walks are offered by our hotel or the tourist office.

    Snowkiting

    In winter, the Achensee offers perfect conditions for snowkiting. Since 2010, there has been a licensed school offering courses for all those interested from the age of 7. Take the opportunity to learn this fascinating sport or improve your skills. Skiing or snowboarding are the basic requirements.
